Elba Island Begins Commercial Operation

Platts reports that the relatively small (nameplate capacity approximately 33 MMcf/day) Elba Island liquefaction and export terminal near Savannah, Ga., has begun commercial operation. According to the report, the Elba Island facility is supported by a 20-year contract with Shell, which will take 100% of the liquefaction capacity of the terminal.

Platts reports that FERC has authorized Kinder Morgan to place the first liquefaction train at its Elba Island, Ga., export terminal into commercial service, “amid consistent LNG production at the facility over the last two weeks.” The report states that no commissioning cargoes have shipped from the facility, and it remained unclear when the first commercial cargo would be ready to load....

UK Utility Begins Purchases of Sabine Pass LNG

United Kingdom utility Centrica plc announced it has loaded its first LNG cargo from the fifth LNG train at the Sabine Pass liquefaction plant in Cameron Parish, La., under the agreement signed in 2013 with Cheniere Energy Partners, L.P. The gas was loaded onto the GasLog Ltd chartered Skagen vessel over the weekend and will be transiting the Atlantic to land in Europe in early October. Under the terms of the agreement, Centrica purchases LNG for an initial 20-year period, with the option for a 10-year extension.
