Sierra Club Withdraws Court Challenge to LNG Exports

Law360 reports that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit has granted Sierra Club’s voluntary motion to dismiss its appeal of U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) orders approving LNG export volumes for Cheniere Energy Inc.’s Sabine Pass LNG project in Cameron Parish, La.  Sierra Club lost several court cases where it challenged FERC orders approving the construction of various LNG export terminals and DOE orders approving the export of the LNG produced at the terminals.  Sierra Club’s primary argument was that “the agencies failed to analyze the environmental impacts of increased gas...

Russian LNG Arrives in Boston

The Washington Post reports that a tanker carrying LNG produced at the Yamal facility in the Arctic Circle has docked at the Engie SA Everett LNG import terminal in Boston, Mass.  Russian company Novatek, reported to be Russia’s largest independent producer of natural gas, is the majority owner of the Yamal facility.  Although the U.S. Treasury Department issued sanctions in July 2014 that forbid financing for projects belonging to Novatek, the sanctions do not prohibit the purchase of LNG from Novatek’s Yamal facility.  The article also states that the tanker’s LNG cargo “did not come...

FERC Releases Update on Plaquemines LNG Project

Corpus Christi Liquefaction Forecasts Train 1 Substantial Completion By March 2019

Corpus Christi Liquefaction (CCL) has filed a report with FERC projecting that CCL’s LNG production Train 1 will achieve substantial completion in March 2019 and Train 2 will achieve substantial completion in September 2019. The report covers construction activity at CCL’s LNG production and export facility at Corpus Christi, Texas, through December 2017.

Coast Guard Approves WSA for Rio Grande LNG Project

The San Antonio Business Journal reports that the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) has approved the water suitability assessment (WSA) for the proposed Rio Grande LNG project. EIA Projects Average U.S. LNG Exports to Increase by 1 Bcf/day in 2018

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) has released its monthly Short-Term Energy Outlook.  EIA projects that LNG gross exports will average 3.0 Bcf/d in 2018, up from 1.9 Bcf/d in 2017, as U.S. liquefaction capacity continues to expand.  EIA expects Dominion Energy’s Cove Point LNG terminal under construction in Lusby, Md., to ramp up to full capacity and, at the Elba Island LNG facility under construction near Savannah, Ga., 6 of the 10 small modular trains, each with a capacity of 0.03 Bcf/d, are expected to enter service.
