The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released data on U.S. LNG imports and exports for the period February 2016 through December 2017. The top five recipients of exported LNG from the United States and the percentages of the total amount of LNG exported for the period are Mexico (18.8%), South Korea (15.8%), China (13.5%), Japan (7.2%), and Chile (6.2%).

FERC has sent another request for information to Alaska Gasline Development Corporation (AGDC), sponsor of the Alaska LNG liquefaction and export terminal project. Pivotal LNG (Pivotal) announced that it has executed another multiyear contract to supply LNG to Carib Energy (USA) LLC, a subsidiary of Crowley Maritime Corp. (Crowley), for a major pharmaceutical company’s energy needs. According to the press release, the LNG will be transported by Crowley from one of Pivotal’s LNG supply points to the pharmaceutical company’s facility in Puerto Rico. The U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has issued a corrective action order requiring Cheniere Energy subsidiary Sabine Pass Liquefaction, LLC (Sabine Pass) to remove from service and evaluate two LNG storage tanks at Sabine Pass’s liquefaction facility in Cameron Parish, La. Cheniere Energy announced today that it has entered into two LNG sale and purchase agreements (SPA) with China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). According to the press release, under the SPAs with Cheniere subsidiaries Corpus Christi Liquefaction, LLC and Cheniere Marketing International LLP, CNPC subsidiary PetroChina International Company Limited will purchase approximately 1.2 million tonnes per annum of LNG, with a portion of the supply beginning in 2018 and the balance beginning in 2023. Platts reports that ConocoPhillips has sold its LNG production facility and export terminal in Kenai, Alaska, to Andeavor. The Kenai plant will be used to fuel Andeavor’s nearby crude oil refinery at Nikiski, on the Kenai Peninsula south of Anchorage.

Dominion Energy Cove Point (DECP) announced that LNG production has begun at its newly constructed natural gas liquefaction facility undergoing commissioning in Lusby, Md. DECP stated that “[a]ll major equipment has been operated and is being commissioned as expected.” The facility is expected to enter commercial service in early March.
