Excelerate Promotes Northeast Gateway LNG Deepwater Port as Alternative to Everett Terminal
A spokesperson for Excelerate Energy told the Boston Herald that the Northeast Gateway LNG deepwater port provides an alternative to the Everett terminal for delivering LNG imports to the Boston area. The spokesperson also noted that Excelerate will have unloaded seven LNG cargos by the end of February at Northeast Gateway, which is approximately 15-20% of the natural gas needed in New England this season. In response, Jim Hunt, director of environment and energy for Boston Mayor Thomas Menino’s office, praised Northeast Gateway but suggested that the facility may not have enough import capacity to replace the Everett LNG terminal.
