Excelerate Adopts Whale Detection System for Offshore Northeast United States
Excelerate Energy has installed six sub-surface buoys around its Northeast Gateway Energy Bridge to help construction vessels, and eventually LNG vessels, avoid colliding with whales. The Gloucester Daily Times (Mass.) reports that both the Excelerate and Suez LNG NA projects are located near the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary and that LNG vessels servicing the two terminals will have to cross a portion of the sanctuary. The listening system is part of an environmental impact mitigation plan for the project and represents $6.5 million of the $23 million that each developer will pay in mitigation.
