DNV to Study Sloshing on LNG Carriers
Lloyd’s List reports that Det Norske Veritas (DNV) will undertake a study of sloshing forces in membrane tanks on LNG vessels, partnering with Lloyd’s Register, BW Gas, Teekay, and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering. The study, which will be based on data gathered from a newbuild vessel scheduled to begin transporting LNG from Nigeria to North America and Europe in early 2008, will employ pressure sensors and fiber optic technology to measure strain in one of the ship’s cargo tanks.
