Consultant Criticizes Safety and Security of Sparrows Point LNG Facility
At a news conference held yesterday by an LNG opposition group, a former Central Intelligence Agency official now working as a security consultant told local residents that the developer of the Sparrows Point LNG import terminal has not sufficiently addressed potential risks posed by piracy and terrorism. Charles S. Faddis said, “AES wants to build this facility without putting in meaningful safeguards to stand up to terrorist threats.” In response, an official with the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association told the Baltimore Sun that any concern over pirates attacking an LNG vessel in the Chesapeake Bay is exaggerated.
