ConocoPhillips Schedules Vendor Fair for Compass Port Project
In an effort to keep its promise to spend $100 million in Alabama on the construction of the proposed offshore Compass Port LNG terminal, ConocoPhillips announced that it will sponsor a vendor fair on April 24 in Mobile for companies potentially interested in the project. According to Steve Lawless, the company’s manager of stakeholder relations and permitting, the fair is designed to “get a feel for what exists here in terms of labor force and skill set.” When announced in April 2004, ConocoPhillips estimated the project would generate $30 million for Alabama businesses. The company remains intent on offering priority employment consideration for Alabama firms and residents as part of its financial incentives package presented to the state in February 2006. Recognizing the authority of the governor to veto the offshore project, ConocoPhillips’ incentives package also includes various economic and environmental incentives in order to garner further support from Alabama Gov. Bob Riley. Read more in today’s Mobile Register.
