CLF Encourages FERC to Consider Regional Approach to LNG Terminal Siting

Federal regulators should adopt a regional approach to siting LNG terminals in the Northeast rather than evaluate proposed LNG projects on an individual basis, an attorney with the Conservation Law Foundation told FERC at a public hearing for the Downeast LNG terminal in Maine. Roger Fleming argued that the review process needs to consider how much LNG import capacity a region can support and identify which areas are appropriate for building energy facilities. “This ad hoc approach has not been efficient or effective and does not provide an adequate basis for decision-making about individual proposals,” he said.
