Canadian Ambassador Reaffirms Canada’s Opposition to LNG Vessel Transit Associated with Downeast LNG
In a letter to FERC Chairman Jon Wellinghoff, Canada’s ambassador to the United States Michael Wilson reiterated Canada’s position that the waters of Head Harbour Passage are internal waters of Canada and that Canada “maintains the right to control and regulate their use.” Referring to the recently issued Downeast LNG Draft EIS, Ambassador Wilson goes on to note that Canada’s opposition to LNG vessel traffic in Head Harbour Passage remains unchanged and that FERC may “wish to advise project proponents that they should consider withdrawing their applications as these projects cannot go forward as envisioned.” Find the ambassador’s letter in the FERC eLibrary under the Downeast LNG Docket No. CP07-52.
