California Senate Passes Measure to Re-Evaluate Need for LNG
The California State Senate has passed SB 412, which orders the California Energy Commission (CEC) to submit to the legislature and governor by July 1, 2008, a “Needs Evaluation Report” to determine whether the state’s energy demands can be met without LNG. If SB 412 becomes law, it would also place a moratorium on the issuance of permits for LNG facilities or pipelines from out-of-state LNG facilities until the LNG Needs Evaluation Report has been adopted. The Malibu Times reports that the California State Assembly will hold a hearing on the measure during June or July. The State Assembly rejected a similar bill last September.
