California Regulators To Address Gas Quality for Imported LNG
According to today’s edition of The Los Angeles Times, after considering a proposed decision by a California Public Utilities Commission judge, the CPUC is poised to render a decision with regard to the appropriate gas composition standards for imported LNG. Critics, including environmentalists, appliance industry representatives, and air quality officials, argue that regasified imported LNG may exacerbate air pollution, cause consumer appliances to malfunction, and potentially impact pipeline infrastructure. However, Sempra Energy, which is building an LNG import facility in Mexico, and local utilities in California maintain that imported LNG will not create difficulties and support broader standards.
