Australian Energy Firm Discusses California LNG Proposal

A report today in The Age has the details of Woodside’s plan to ship LNG to California using “safe environmentally sensitive technology.” Dubbed the OceanWay project, the company would construct tankers that would convert LNG at sea and ship natural gas into a pipeline 24 kilometers from southern California. The initiative distinguishes itself from three other LNG development plans for the region because it does not involve a regasfication terminal. According to Woodside’s press release, the company is considering several sites, using criteria that includes “a location remote from populated areas, minimum on-shore disruption and safe oceanographic conditions.”
