U.S. House Subcommittee Holds Hearing on Shipping of U.S. LNG Exports
The U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation held a hearing this week on the status of the U.S. Merchant Marine. The hearing focused on H.R. 5270, the bipartisan “Growing American Shipping Act” or GAS Act, which would promote the export of U.S. LNG on U.S.-flagged vessels by (1) authorizing the Secretary of Transportation to develop and implement a program to promote the export of LNG on U.S.-flagged vessels, and (2) requiring the Secretary to give priority processing of export applications for deepwater port terminals that would utilize U.S.-flagged vessels. According to the press release, witnesses at the hearing voiced support for the legislation.
