Environmental Groups Urge Maryland Governor to Oppose Dominion Cove Point LNG Export Terminal; Washington Post Op-ed Responds in Support of the Terminal
A group of environmental organizations, including Sierra Club, Greenpeace USA and Earthjustice, and numerous other concerned groups and citizens, sent a letter to Maryland Governor O’Malley requesting that he declare his opposition to Dominion Cove Point LNG’s proposed LNG export terminal at Lusby, Md., and “demand” that FERC prepare a full Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project. The letter claims that the terminal project will increase pollution and domestic gas prices. Read more in the press release.
In response to the letter, The Washington Post published an Op-Ed today in support of the terminal project, citing studies finding net benefits to the U.S. economy from LNG exports and stating that the opposition should push for more regulation of emissions from liquefaction facilities rather than opposing exports.
