USCG Denies Request to Release Parts of Bradwood WSA
The Oregonian reported yesterday that the U.S. Coast Guard has denied a request for disclosure of the Waterway Suitability Assessment report filed by NorthernStar in connection with its proposed Bradwood LNG terminal, suggesting its release “could compromise national security.” Coast Guard Lt. Shadrack Scheirman, chief of port operations in Portland, explained, “[w]e don’t want to be telling the terrorists where the dangerous areas are.” Parts of the report, which analyzes safety issues on the Columbia River near Astoria, Ore., might be included in FERC’s draft environmental impact statement, which could be available within four months.
