U.S.-Based Company to Produce LNG from Waste Gas

The Sunday Times reports on technology owned by U.S.-based Prometheus Energy that produces LNG by capturing, cleaning, and chilling methane that emanates from landfills and coal mines. “We are capturing what would otherwise be released straight into the atmosphere as a greenhouse gas, so not only is our technology cheap, but it will help with emissions targets,” said Kirt Montague, Prometheus Energy’s chief executive.  The company’s first plant at a landfill in Orange County, Calif. is expected to yield 5,000 gallons of LNG each day once it starts production by the end of the year.
