U.S. Senators Propose Repeal of FERC Authority Over Siting of LNG Terminals

Last week U.S. Senators Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), and Joseph Lieberman (ID-Conn.) proposed senate bill 2822 that would repeal FERC’s authority over the siting of LNG facilities, established as part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Sen. Clinton said, “The 2005 energy bill trampled on states’ rights when it comes to LNG terminal siting decisions, and it’s time for Congress to set things right.” The Salem News (Ore.) offers additional details and Energy Law 360 provides the text of the bill [subscription required]. The bill should be available on the Library of Congress’ Thomas website.
