U.S. Representative Urges FERC to Reject Sparrows Point

In a letter to FERC Chairman Joseph Kelliher, U.S. Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.) urged the Commission to dismiss AES’ application to develop an LNG terminal at Sparrows Point, citing a recent federal court ruling that upheld a ban on LNG facilities near sensitive coastal areas. AES responded that the judicial process should be allowed to run its course before FERC renders a final decision. A FERC spokesperson said it would be “highly unusual” for the Commission to reject an application without completing the full review process. The Baltimore Sun offers further details.
