U.S. Consumption Spurs Development of Canadian LNG Terminals

According to The Hour, U.S. demand for natural gas, trade obligations, insufficient output capacity at U.S. terminals, and a lack of public awareness about LNG safety have all contributed to LNG project development in Canada. However, the article notes that the proposed LNG import capacity will far exceed Canada’s gas demand. Jacques Levasseur, president of an environmental organization based in Levis, Quebec, does not see the need for Canadian LNG terminals given the country’s gas reserves. Levasseur also expressed concern over the potential adverse impact the Rabaska LNG terminal may have on the environment and local residents.
