Skipanon LNG Critics Oppose Holding Appellate Hearing in State Capital

Critics of Calpine’s Skipanon LNG terminal want the appeal of Warrenton’s rezoning decision to be heard in Warrenton, the location of the planned facility, instead of in Salem, where the Land Use Board of Appeals generally holds hearings. Calpine says that Salem is a better location, citing unruly public demonstrations at public hearings in Warrenton. Brett VandenHeuvel, attorney for citizen organizations People for Responsible Prosperity and Columbia Riverkeeper, called Calpine’s reasons “offensive” and said that the Salem location would make it difficult for interested local parties to watch the proceedings. Details are in The Daily Astorian.
