Sierra Club and Municipal Gas Utilities Continue Opposition to LNG Exports
Sierra Club and the American Public Gas Association (APGA), which represents municipal gas utilities, each filed protests at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) opposing Southern LNG Company, L.L.C.’s application to export LNG to countries without a Free Trade Agreement with the United States. Sierra Club opposes the application arguing that DOE has not considered the potential environmental harm from increased hydraulic fracturing and the increase in domestic gas prices which could result from increased gas exports. APGA’s protest focuses on the increase in domestic gas prices that could result from approval of additional LNG exports. The protests can be found on DOE’s website under Docket No. 12-100-LNG.
