Senators Propose to Block Funds for Final Weaver’s Cove Authorizations

U.S. Senators Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), and John Kerry (D-Mass.) have sent a letter asking the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development to deny FERC federal funding to finalize its authorization of the Weaver’s Cove LNG proposal. Citing concerns raised by the recent USCG review  of the project, the senators requested specific language be included in the 2008 energy and water appropriations committee bill that would ban federal funds from being used to approve or allow the construction of an LNG terminal in Fall River, Mass. The Providence Journal and Platts LNG Daily provide further details. [Subscription required]
