Secretary Bodman Calls for Approval of Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline

Citing the need to augment domestic supply of natural gas, DOE Secretary Samuel Bodman urged Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski to expedite the construction of the Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline Project, which would transport natural gas from Alaska’s North Slope to U.S. Midwest markets. In a letter sent to Murkowski Wednesday, Bodman warned that a delay could jeopardize the project by allowing LNG imports to capture U.S. marketsand fill the supply-demand gap. The Alaska Legislature will consider during a special session scheduled to start on July 12 a draft contract for completion of the project by its sponsors, BP, ConocoPhillips, and ExxonMobil.
