Sandia Labs Program Manager Says Larger LNG Vessels Have Slightly Greater Hazard Distances
Mike Hightower, a program manager at Sandia National Laboratories, said yesterday at the International Oil Spill Conference that the most recent computer simulations suggest that the potential hazard distances from an LNG fire are 7-8% greater for new, larger LNG vessels than for traditional, smaller LNG vessels. “What we’re finding is the hazards are still in order of a mile or so,” said Hightower.
