Rhode Island Legislation Seeks to Distribute Weaver’s Cove Emergency Management Plan Approval Authority
The Rhode Island House Committee on Municipal Government approved House Bill No. 6482, which would require any proposed emergency management plan for the Weaver’s Cove LNG terminal to receive approval from the state’s General Assembly, as well as all seven coastal communities that border the proposed tanker route, in order to be implemented. According to the bill’s author, State Rep. Raymond Gallison (D-Bristol, Portsmouth), if the General Assembly or any of the seven coastal communities refuse to approve the emergency management plan, the Weaver’s Cove project could not go forward.
