Report Says Proposed Cabrillo Port Terminal Poses Minimal Safety Risks to Land
The California State Lands Commission yesterday issued a report saying that BHP Billiton’s proposed Cabrillo Port LNG terminal would not harm Oxnard or other counties because it has many safety features. The study notes that although a vapor fire stemming from a deliberate attack could impact an area 7.3 miles away, it would still be 6.6 miles away from the nearest coastline. However, the report says fishing areas and shipping lanes may be prone to an accident or attack. The release of the report, which is the revised version of the draft environmental review that was issued in Oct. 2004, kicks off a 45-day review period which will include public forums in Oxnard, Malibu and Santa Clarita.
