Repairs Begin for LNG Vessel Off Massachusetts Coast

After losing propulsion early Monday morning, repairs on  the LNG vessel Catalunya Spirit began last night under Coast Guard supervision. Although this is the first time in 27 years of LNG transport to the Everett terminal that a vessel has lost propulsion, state and local officials still raised safety and security concerns. However, Coast Guard Captain Gail Kulisch told the Boston Globe that if the incident had occurred in Boston Harbor, “[t]hat vessel would be under positive control and would be safely moved” in or out of the Everett terminal.
