Proposed Bill Aims to Stop Sparrows Point Project
In another legislative attempt to block AES’ proposed Sparrows Point LNG terminal, Baltimore County Sen. Norman R. Stone Jr. on Jan. 26 introduced a bill that bars the Maryland Public Service Commission from endorsing any proposed LNG terminal that is located in Baltimore County and within two miles of any residence. The bill would also prohibit non-governmental entities from dredging at the proposed site and require LNG facilities constructed after June 1, 2007, to file a surety bond of $10,000,000 to $100,000,000 with the local governing body. Discussing legislative efforts to block the project, Del. John A Olszewski Jr., a member of the Baltimore County delegation, tells The Daily Record that interest in the Sparrows Point issue is localized.
