Passamaquoddy Tribe Seeks Negotiations With Emera

Citing the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal, The Associated Press reports that the Passamaquoddy Tribe is requesting an opportunity to discuss its concerns with Emera over the company’s proposed Brunswick Pipeline, which would run through tribal territory.  “If we live here, we have a vested interest in this soil,” said Chief Hugh Akagi. However, Emera’s spokesman maintains that the company has negotiated with the affected native groups that are recognized by the government.  The Passamaquoddy Tribe is currently seeking formal recognition.
