Op-ed: Renewable Energy Sources Preferable to Cabrillo Port Terminal
In response to an op-ed by the director of external affairs for BHP Billiton, the California program director for Pacific Environment asserts that 25 million tons of greenhouse gases will be released during the life cycle of the LNG that passes through BHP Billiton’s proposed Cabrillo Port LNG project, from extraction of the natural gas to its ultimate combustion. Californians should pursue alternatives to LNG, he says, including “untapped resources [like] the sun, the wind and the waves, not to mention efficiency and conservation.” His op-ed may be found in the Ventura County Star.
