Op-ed: BHP Billiton’s Law Firm Closely Tied to Gov. Schwarzenegger
Syndicated columnist Thomas D. Elias says Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger could be influenced by his close relationship with attorneys at a law firm that represents BHP Billiton regarding its proposed Cabrillo Port LNG terminal. Comparing the current situation to the circumstances surrounding an LNG terminal proposed for Point Conception in Santa Barbara County in the 1970s and 1980s, Elias suggests BHP Billiton’s project is “greased.” George Kieffer, a co-chairman of Schwarzenegger’s 2006 campaign and an attorney for the firm, says he is not involved in the matter and has not spoken with the governor regarding LNG or the project. The Highland Community News carries Elias’ op-ed.
