New Brunswick Premier Responds to WSJ Editorial

Writing in today’s Wall Street Journal, New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham challenges a March 22 WSJ editorial that characterized the Canadian and New Brunswick position over the Downeast and Quoddy Bay LNG terminal proposals as “energy protectionism.” The Premier emphasizes that Canadian and New Brunswick concerns with the proposed LNG terminal projects primarily involve economic, environmental, safety and security issues associated with vessel transit through the Canadian waters of Head Harbour Passage. The letter highlights the Province’s role in the FERC regulatory review process to “ensure that the FERC considers how the resolution of matters within its jurisdiction might impact the lives of New Brunswick citizens.” [Subscription required]
