Massachusetts Energy and Environment Office Clarifies Position on Weaver’s Cove LNG Proposed Mitigation Measures
The Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs submitted a letter to FERC and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers last week clarifying Secretary Ian A. Bowles’ position on the mitigation proposal filed by Weaver’s Cove LNG on October 20, 2009. Agencies under the Secretary’s control have expressed “significant reservations” regarding the proposed environmental mitigation measures. The Secretary also disputes the suggestion by Weaver’s Cove that the developer has met its obligations to consult and receive input on mitigation measures, and concludes that mitigation measures “should not be fully analyzed, for reasons of both substance and agency resources, until a robust alternatives analysis of previously identified sites with significantly less potential adverse impacts had been conducted.” Find the letter in the FERC eLibrary under Docket No. CP04-36.
