Mass. Officials Ask Developer to Abandon Weaver’s Cove Project

Citing potential safety risks posed by LNG vessels transiting the Taunton River to reach the FERC-approved Weaver’s Cove terminal, two Massachusetts officials have written a letter to the terminal developer’s CEO urging the company to “terminate” its plans for the project. State Secretary of Public Safety Kevin M. Burke and Undersecretary of Homeland Security Juliette Kayyem wrote, “We believe that [Weaver’s Cove] should not move forward due to significant and reasonably insurmountable safety concerns.” In response, a Weaver’s Cove spokesperson said that the developer is “absolutely not giving up.” Read more in the Boston Herald.
