Maine Supreme Court Hears Arguments Over Access to Quoddy Bay Records

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court yesterday heard oral arguments in the appeal of a ruling that said the Passamaquoddy Tribe is not subject to the state’s Freedom of Access Act. The Bangor Daily News and Quoddy Tides sued the Tribe for denying reporters access to council meetings where the land lease for Quoddy Bay LNG was being discussed. At issue is whether the Tribe acted as a municipality or as a business during its negotiations with Quoddy Bay.
