Maine Governor Notes Strong Relationship Between Maine and New Brunswick Despite Disagreement Over LNG Vessel Traffic in Head Harbour Passage
This weekend Gov. John Baldacci (D-Maine) contributed an op-ed to the Bangor Daily News which notes the continuing strong relationship between Maine and New Brunswick despite the disagreement over whether the Canadian Government has the right to regulate vessel traffic in Head Harbour Passage. Gov. Baldacci argues that Head Harbour Passage is an international waterway and the United States and Maine “cannot cede control of commerce in Maine” to Canada.
The Telegraph-Journal (New Brunswick) offers coverage of New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham’s position on this issue, noting that the Premier recently published his own op-ed addressing LNG vessel transit in Head Harbour Passage.
