Local Citizen Lays Claim to Lot at Weaver’s Cove
A former Fall River City Council candidate and critic of the Weaver’s Cove LNG project has set up a campsite on a 1.19-acre “wedge lot” located within the proposed terminal’s thermal exclusion zone. David Frederick is claiming “squatter’s rights” to the land, which is owned by the state, in an attempt to prevent Hess LNG from exercising the necessary control over all property within the facility’s exclusion zone. FERC has indicated that if Hess cannot establish the legal right to control the property, it cannot construct or operate the facility without a special waiver from the Department of Transportation.
