LNG Supply Uncertainty Threatens Expansion of Jamaican Refinery
The Jamaica Gleaner reports that Trinidad & Tobago’s state-owned natural gas company intends to supply LNG to Jamaica, but not before 2009. The delay may imperil Alcoa Corporation’s support for the proposed expansion of the Jamalco alumina refinery, which it jointly owns with the Jamaican government. According to an Alcoa representative, even if supply is secured, “the project will be re-evaluated against factors such as market conditions and expansion opportunities at other locations around the world.”
