LNG Hearing Addresses All Concerns Regarding Weaver’s Cove Proposal
Although last night’s public hearing was scheduled to discuss dredging and filling issues related to the Weaver’s Cove terminal, opponents of the project focused their comments on safety and security issues. “We are here recognizing that you have a narrow focus of consideration…but we ask you to consider the larger picture,” Mayor Edward M. Lambert Jr. told representatives from the Army Corps of Engineers, who hosted the meeting. Opponents also questioned the need for dredging in light of the barrier to tanker traffic posed by the old Brightman Street Bridge. Lt. Col. Andrew Nelson of ACoE said that if the bridge remains in place, the benefits of the dredging “would not be realized.” Today’s Herald News has the details of the event.
