Kelliher Criticizes Regional LNG Terminal Siting Approach

FERC Chairman Joseph Kelliher dismissed calls for a regional approach to siting LNG terminals, explaining that “[r]egional siting is difficult. It hasn’t actually worked in other contexts.” Speaking at a conference sponsored by Independent System Operator New England, Kelliher said that a regional siting approach may not be a practical solution to increasing New England’s natural gas supply because some states may decide not to cooperate with multi-state energy planning efforts if there is a particularly unpopular proposed energy facility.
