Gas Buyers Granted Intervener Status to Protest Kenai Export License Renewal
Platts LNG Daily reports that the U.S. Department of Energy has granted intervenor status to several Alaskan gas buyers, allowing them to formally protest Marathon and ConocoPhillips’ application to extend the export license for their Kenai LNG liquefaction plant. Responding to the buyers’ concerns about their ability to meet the long-term gas demands of their customers, Marathon and ConocoPhillips contend that Alaska has sufficient gas reserves to satisfy domestic needs as well as exports.
