FERC: Sparrows Point LNG Might Need New Pipeline Route
In a letter to Sparrows Point LNG, FERC advised that because the company’s current pipeline route runs within the rights-of-way for U.S. Interstate 695 for a stretch of several miles, the state rather than the Federal government has authority to determine whether to allow pipeline construction. Maryland has a general ban on utility lines running alongside highways, due to the traffic delays that construction projects can cause. According to FERC, unless Sparrows Point can obtain an exemption from the Maryland State Highway Administration, a new pipeline route will have to be submitted. FERC’s letter is available in its eLibrary under docket number CP07-62.
