FERC EIS for Alaskan Gas Pipeline Will Not Focus on Proposed LNG Export Project Valdez

FERC has announced that it intends to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the planned Alaska Pipeline Project. FERC’s Notice of Intent, available in the FERC eLibrary under Docket No. PF09-11, states that although project developers TransCanada and ExxonMobil are considering connecting the pipeline to an LNG liquefaction facility in Valdez, the Commission has very little information on that option and therefore will focus its EIS analysis on the proposal to transport natural gas from Alaska’s North Slope to Alberta. The Associate Press (carried by BusinessWeek) provides additional details.
