FERC Approves Tennessee Pipeline Expansion, Rejects Everett LNG Expansion Argument

FERC yesterday issued an order approving an expansion to Tennessee Gas’ pipeline system in Massachusetts. The Distrigas LNG terminal is the exclusive customer for the proposed expansion. In its order, the Commission dismissed concerns raised by the City of Boston that FERC “did not address the possibility of increased LNG shipping traffic into Boston Harbor resulting from the construction and operation for the proposed [pipeline] project.” FERC explained that there is no associated application to increase capacity at the Distrigas terminal in Everett, Mass., and any future increase would require Everett to seek appropriate authorization. The order is available in the FERC e-Library in Docket No. CP06-18.
