ExxonMobil Announces LNG Regas Terminal for Offshore New Jersey
Yesterday ExxonMobil made public its BlueOcean Energy project, a proposal to build a floating regasification terminal approximately 20 miles off the coast of New Jersey and 30 miles south of Long Island. As currently contemplated, BlueOcean Energy has a designed capacity of 1.2 Bcf/d. Ron Billings, Exxon’s vice president of global LNG, told the New York Times that the company has “tried to learn from [its] past experiences and that of the industry in general,” and noted that the site avoids shipping channels and recreational areas. The gas from the terminal would be transported via pipeline and come ashore in Raritan Bay, New Jersey.
