Cheniere Energy and PHMSA Enter Consent Agreement for Sabine Pass Tank Leak
Cheniere Energy and the U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) entered into a Consent Agreement and Order that sets forth the corrective measures to be implemented before the company may return to service two LNG storage tanks at its Sabine Pass LNG export terminal in Cameron Parish, La. The tanks have been offline since an inadvertent release of LNG earlier this year. According to a Platts report, the agreement “calls for repairs and continued investigation of the root cause of the mishap that occurred January 22, while also suggesting that once modifications are made and the terms are followed the company will be able to seek approval for restart of the tanks.”
