PHMSA and FERC Issue Orders Regarding LNG Storage Leaks at Sabine Pass Facility
The U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has issued a corrective action order requiring Cheniere Energy subsidiary Sabine Pass Liquefaction, LLC (Sabine Pass) to remove from service and evaluate two LNG storage tanks at Sabine Pass’s liquefaction facility in Cameron Parish, La. Leaks of LNG and natural gas from the storage tanks were identified on January 22, 2018. FERC also sent a letter to Cheniere Energy requiring it to receive written authorization before it may place the two tanks back into service for the import or export of LNG.
