New Energy Bill Includes Provision to Speed-up Non-FTA LNG Exports
The Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2015, introduced yesterday by U.S. Senators Murkowski (R-AK) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA), includes a provision at Section 2201 “requiring the Secretary of Energy to issue a final decision, approving or disapproving, any application to export natural gas to countries that do not have free trade agreements with the United States no later than 45 days after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission or Maritime Administration has concluded the review required by [National Environmental Policy Act].” The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will hold markup sessions on the bill on July 28 and 30, 2015.
