DOE Authorizes Exports from Sabine Pass LNG Trains 5 and 6 to Non-FTA Nations
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a Final Opinion and Order authorizing Sabine Pass Liquefaction (SPL) to export over a 20-year period 503.3 Bcf/year of LNG from proposed liquefaction Trains 5 and 6 to be located at SPL’s export terminal under construction in Cameron Parish, La. SPL is authorized to export such volumes to nations without a Free Trade Agreement with the United States (Non-FTA Nations). Pursuant to this order and a prior DOE order, SPL is authorized to export over a 20-year period a total of 1,306.3 Bcf/year of LNG to Non-FTA nations. In granting the authorization, DOE concluded that “the opponents of [the] applications … have not demonstrated that the requested authorization will be inconsistent with the public interest,” and found that the proposed LNG exports “are likely to yield net economic benefits to the United States.”
